You Don't Have to Carry It Alone

You Don't Have to Carry It Alone

Some days, the hardest thing in the world is to say three small words out loud: I'm not okay.

We're taught to keep it together. To answer "how are you?" with "good, how about you?" — even when we're barely holding on. To smile in the group photo. To push through. To not be a burden.

But I've learned something over the years, and it's the reason this brand exists: the weight we carry in silence is almost always lighter when someone else knows we're carrying it.

So this first post isn't about a product. It's about you. And it's about the quiet, everyday courage it takes just to keep going.

The things we don't talk about

Mental health struggles are far more common than the highlight reels around us would suggest. Anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, the low hum of "something isn't right" that we can't quite name — these aren't rare, and they aren't weakness. They're human.

And yet so many of us go through them convinced we're the only one. We assume everyone else has it figured out. We mistake other people's composure for other people's ease.

Here's the truth I keep coming back to: the person next to you may be fighting a battle you can't see. Sometimes that person is you.

You are not alone — and I mean that literally

If you're in a hard season right now, I want you to hear this clearly: you don't have to have it all together. You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to be "bad enough" to deserve support.

Reaching out isn't dramatic. It isn't too much. It's one of the bravest, most ordinary things a person can do.

And there are real people, right now, ready to sit with you in it.

Resources worth saving

If you or someone you love is struggling, please keep these somewhere easy to find. They're free, confidential, and available whether you're in crisis or just need someone to talk to.

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. Available 24/7 for anyone in emotional distress — you don't have to be in crisis to reach out. (Veterans can press 1.)
  • Crisis Text Line — Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor by text.
  • SAMHSA National Helpline1-800-662-HELP (4357). Free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information for mental health and substance use.
  • NAMI HelpLine1-800-950-6264, or text "NAMI" to 62640. Support, resources, and information from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
  • American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)afsp.org. Education, support, and community for anyone touched by suicide.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

A small way to check on someone

You don't need the perfect words. You just need to show up. If someone's been on your mind, try:

  • "Hey — I've been thinking about you. How are you really doing?"
  • "You don't have to explain anything. I just wanted you to know I'm here."
  • "Want company? We don't even have to talk."

Sometimes the most healing thing you can offer another person is simply the reminder that they're seen.

Why Spread Love Collective exists

I started Spread Love Collective because I believe the message matters as much as anything we wear.

Every piece is designed around a quiet, hidden message of hope — something you might catch on a hard day, or something a stranger might notice and take with them. It's meant to be worn not just for yourself, but for someone else. For the person who needs the reminder and can't say it out loud. For the ones we've lost, and the ones we're still holding on to.

A portion of every sale is donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, so that spreading love isn't just something we say — it's something we actually put behind the causes doing the hard, real work.

Before you go

If you take one thing from this post, let it be this: you matter, exactly as you are, on your worst day and your best one. The world is genuinely better with you in it.

Be gentle with yourself this week. Check on the strong ones. And when you can, spread a little love — it always finds its way back.

With love, Michelle Founder, Spread Love Collective
